Barbora Bažantová was born in Strakonice in 1989. After graduating from high school, she spent several years wandering and working in unqualified jobs in various parts of Europe. Later she starts to study on a university in Brno. During her studies, her first book, “Hoří chemička, něco si přej” is published, in which she describes her participatory observations of life in Janov, excluded housing estate located on outskirts of Litvínov (town in northern Bohemia) and reflects on her own role within.

In her work, she continues to adhere to this approach. Her writing is based in her own lived experiences or those she has observed. Texts she creates lack the heroic ambitions and complicated plots of great novels; instead, they capture images and dialogues between individual characters and the environment that shapes them—an environment they, in turn, help to shape. Her favorite genre is magical realism, in which she sometimes succeeds and sometimes fails to live.

Apart from literature, she started a volunteer association creatively working with Romani children and ocasionally engages in the fields of visual arts and documentary work. She makes money as a seasonal manual worker.
